Background:
- The new experimental projects will need theory, from day –1
- The new tasks require training of physicists (human capital) that may
become involved in the new projects. This depends strongly on the Universities
where theorists play a central role in teaching. The large new projects imply
long-term commitments from the universities and research centres.
- Europe must take measures to at least maintain its nuclear theory capacity
(volume); (i) to get a return on investment in the big projects, and also (ii)
to prevent brain drain.
Present Status:
ECT* and
NuPECC exist.
EURONS and
HADRONS now both have EU funding, some for theory.
The RIA Theory
Group has been formed.
